Interview with Erin Rogers

Emily Dickson

Erin Rogers is a Team lead for failure analysis at Ballard Power Systems. Erin got her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at SFU but currently works in an environment surrounded by people in many different fields of Science. Erin volunteers at many events her company puts on to inspire young kids to pursue the field of Science. Erin is especially passionate about introducing fun Science as she is a mother to two young kids who love Science almost as much as she does. Erin says that when she was growing up that she wasn't exposed to many of the interesting aspects of Science and instead didn't really enjoy it until she was in high school and postsecondary school where she was able to use new lab instruments. Erin suggested that by making my lessons and experiments unique and different from your typical oobleck and elephants toothpaste kids excited and more interested in the field. Erin stated that she believes: "STEM education has drastically improved since I was a student". This shows the progress we have made to influence children to follow this career path, but it also shows that we can still do better.
